Happy Memorial Day and Welcome to the Memorial Day Blog Hop! You should have arrived here from Jamie's blog. There are so many talented ladies in our blog hop today. You'll want to make sure you started at the beginning of the blog hop so you don't miss any of the fun. Michelle at Green Girl Scraps is the first stop on our blog hop so make sure you start there and see her great project.
Memorial Day is about remembering those who served our great country and my Grandpa and several Uncles, many cousins have served. My husbands family has also had many family members that have served and we have friends and church members that have fought for our country. We are very THANKFUL for all of them and even more thankful when they come home safely. Most recently my husbands cousin has arrived home safely to his wife and small children. Their sacrifices are never forgotten.
The card I made today is in recognition of all those who have served and sacrificed on our behalf. This isn't my normal type of card and at first I really didn't like it when I was putting it together, but now that it's done it's growing on me.
I really liked this card base from A Childs Year on page 42. I cut the card base in white but wanted the outline to be in red so I cut it again in red. If my Gypsy had been in my scraproom it would have been easier to do it on there. But when I cut it in red, I didn't need the whole card cut, I just needed the top so after the Cricut cut the top portion of the card I pushed the stop button so I didn't waste my red paper. I then cut the blue star paper at 5 1/2".
The boy and girl image was cut at 3 1/4" for the base and the top layer.
The banner at the top reminded me of the flag banners I hang on my front porch during Memorial Day. The banners were cut at 3/4"from the Independence Day seasonal cartridge.
The ribbon is from my stock. The red ribbon has white stitches on both sides and I added blue ribbon to the top.
The stamp set is from Sarah at Pink By Design. It's the Animated Greetings set. The stamp actually says "You're My SuperHero". I wanted to use it for Memorial Day so I "masked" the Super part of the stamp. I punched them with a Marvy punch and then matted it with blue. I really like the way you can take one of the great stamps from Pink By Design and alter it to make it exactly what you need for any given project.
This is our front porch on Saturday. It's been very rainy and gloomy so the picture isn't very bright. I fly the banners on Memorial Day and the 4th of July. On the left side of the porch is a gazebo that is cut off in the picture, but it has a porch swing and my husband and I enjoy swinging there every evening.
Now on to the fun part of the blog hop. Everyone loves goodies so I'm giving away the Cricut Lite cartridge Cupcake. It can be used for more than cupcakes. It has some great images. Become a follower and leave me a comment telling me your a follower and I will pick a winner on June 2.
